8^th GRADE RESOURCE ENGLISH

Students will work on the following skills, as well as individual goals and objectives from their Individualized Education Plans.

*Reading decoding

*Reading fluency

*Read to determine what the text says

*Make inferences from the text

*Cite specific textual evidence when writing and speaking

*Determine central ideas of a text

*Summarize key details and ideas

*Interpret words and phrases as they are used in a text including connotative and figurative meanings

*Read a diverse variety of texts

*Write arguments to support claims using valid reasoning and relevant evidence

*Write informative/explanatory texts 

*Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events

*Produce clear and coherent writing that is appropriate to task, purpose, and audience

*Develop writing as needed by revising and editing

*Conduct short and more sustained research

*Demonstrate a command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage

*Increase vocabulary to help improve reading fluency and comprehension
